Should you Buy a 90s Diesel Truck?

(RareCarMarket.com) – Diesel trucks manufactured in the 1990s are workhorses. Full of power, these vehicles are often more expensive than their gasoline counterparts in every way, from fuel to maintenance. While only you can say if you require one of these trucks, some factors might help you decide if you should buy one.

While fuel will cost more, diesel motors get better fuel mileage – about 15% more than gas engines. Additionally, these motors last much longer than their gasoline-powered counterparts. They are also easier to modify and more reliable. Above all, a diesel engine is hardworking and can handle the toughest jobs, including heavy-duty towing.

Still, the superior nature of the diesel engine comes at a cost. They are more expensive to build, so you’ll pay more for this type of vehicle and any necessary maintenance work. On the other hand, this is a “you get what you pay for” situation because diesel engines also hold their value better and last longer.

Diesel engines require more upkeep and attention. They’re more challenging than gas trucks, and basic parts will be more costly. You’ll wear tires out faster, and it can be tough finding a good mechanic who knows how to work on them.

The best bet when buying a 1990s diesel truck is to go ahead and get one if you want or need it. But if you aren’t towing, plowing snow, or driving long distances, then a gas truck will usually make more sense.
