(RareCarMarket.com) – One fear many car owners have is that someone will steal their vehicle. There’s a good reason for it, too. In the US alone, someone steals a car nearly every 43.8 seconds. In 2020, that added up to 810,400 vehicles. Recently, the nightmares of two car owners came to life after criminals took their rare and classic cars. However, their story goes beyond simple theft.
Two car owners in the UK fell victim to theft. One vehicle was a 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 6.4L V8 and the other a 5.0L V8 powered 1985 Ford LTD Country Squire. Both vehicles were located within 20 miles of each other and went missing around the same time. Around a month later, seemingly simple car theft took a turn for the worst. The thieves spray-painted the vehicles and entered them in a demolition derby race.
Police tracked down the cars, but they were too late. The two rare classics — the Ford being the only one of its kind registered in the UK — were no longer salvageable. The thieves completely destroyed them in the race, taking any chance of recovery away from the rightful owners.
Car theft is a serious issue across the globe, but there are ways to protect your classic, such as installing an alarm system, a tracking system, and a vehicle immobilizer. In addition to adding security features, park in well-lit areas or a garage and be alert and aware of the surrounding area.
